Production Blog: Our Views in Music

Hi! At this point in the project, this is where we begin putting together our title design.

My team and I decided to start with the sound and music of the sequence before filming. A group mate of mine took the initiative of contacting several platforms such as Instagram DM, Universal Music Group, and Billy Joe. However, after two weeks and no response, it became a unanimous decision to look for royalty free music.

I started looking for free stock music. I searched up free music and used the websites Bensound, Pixabay, and mixkit. These websites allowed me to play the music in whole and there were saving and downloading options. I was aiming for a number of things. I was looking for a melodic tune that contradicted the scene in a good way or something that builds suspense and kept the audience on edge.

I also looked for heartbeat sound effects for the title sequence. I was able to find some options of heartbeats but couldn't decide on one since the audio from he school computer lacked sound quality. The heartbeat sound effect would be used at the end of the sequence when the character walks out the closet with a surprised face but it is never revealed what he was looking at. So the purpose of the heartbeat sound effect would make the scene more dramatic.

After a while of using the websites, my group and I decided to move onto YouTube for more ideas and options. There, we listened to mostly old fashion songs. They all sounded really good but it came down to two songs so far: "House of the Rising Sun" by Tom Clarence Ashley and Gwen Foster and "I Ain't Got Nobody(And Nobody Cares for Me) by Spencer Williams and Dave Peyton.

While doing my searching for songs, I also gave my input on my team mates suggestions. We would talk about the song and if it would go well with the sequence. This is helpful so we could all come to an agreement with which songs to use. We also came up with an option that we could all make up a song ourselves. At this point, I doubt it since we don't want to waste time.

Considering the rough beginning trying to find songs I think we did well and we have progressed using the best resources we could find. For the next step we will begin filming and I can't wait for that, I know we will do great.
