Production Blog: First Time on the Scene
Hello! On Sunday my team and I began filming. When I arrived, I helped my friends get prepared before the actor arrives. When he got there, I helped clear out the counterspace we were going to use. I placed the cans on the right side of the counter positioned where it looks best on camera. I had brought my lamp in case but we didn't end up using it.
When we began filming we used a tripod to hold the phone for a steady shot. The tripod was connected to a microphone the was plugged into the phone. The microphone was tested and used for the time we filmed. After every take, we would review it to make sure it would fit what we're looking for. I would so often put in my input and help make the shot good. I'd also help our actor when I felt like he could do better. I showed him different ways he could smoothly and naturally sit in the chair. He also kept looking at the camera which he then learn to control later on.
For the next part we filmed, we used pillows, trashcan, and a lot of tape. This was the scene where the character throws away the apple and the audience gets a shot from inside the trashcan where you see the apple fall inside. On the side, you see an overdue electrical bill conveniently placed to be seen. For this we needed to tape the trash bag to the trashcan so when the weight of the apple wouldn't take the bag off the sides. We used quite a lot of tape. We put the phone inside the trash can, ready to film. I noticed all our faces were on the camera and I took pictures of us all looking down at the phone. After this mini photoshoot we continued filming the apple scene.
Since we didn't want to much weight weighing down the bag, I told the actor the throw the apple on some pillows Julie and I placed on the ground. That way, it looks like he tossed it into the trashcan when in reality he threw it into the pile of pillows.
By this point, the last member, Nico arrived. They brought their stabilizer so we detached the microphone from the tripod and taped it onto the the stabilizer. Like before, we used a lot of tape to secure so it wouldn't disturb while filming. Next, we needed to figure out who was going to voice the mom. We all took turns voicing the mom so everyone could see who did it better. When it was my turn to voice the mom, I felt like I was too soft spoken or not "motherly" enough. Everyone thought that Nico sounded best so they filmed the characters face as Nico voiced the mom.
Now, it was time to wrap up any final filming we needed to do and had pizza and some rest at the end where we chilled and joked around. It was fun filming and below is one of the pictures from the trashcan shot.
